One year of staying at home / by Allison Steel

It’s been a year since the pandemic started and I’m finally feeling my creative itch that increasingly needs scratching. I wish I could have been the sort of person who was taking this time of being isolated at home to write the great American novel but that was not me. Rather than spend a lot of time explaining myself and psychoanalyzing the last year I’d rather just show you what I’m working on now.

I’ll be posting here instead of social media because I find that to be an addictive time-wasting place for me. So I just want to have a place where I can share my new work and thinking.

These are some drawings from 2019 but they seem to speak to the moment. I am feeling really excited about my new areas of interest. My brain being on fire is how I visualize this sort of exciting inspiration… like the inverse of the manuscript of Hildegard von Bingen with the red tendrils of divine inspiration coming down at her like a drippy squid curtain.
